Residents, schools and corporations with a garden are challenged to remove the tiles and place green, flowers and trees instead. Project Tegels eruit groen erin!, (Tiles out, green in!) offered me the opportunity to visit hundred gardens, full of tiles and make a vegetation plan and an estimation of budget per location.
The goal is to replace as many tiles with vegetation to make the private gardens and inner courtyards greener and more climate-proof. For the project the estimation was fitting perfectly on the budget and for the resident, the vegetation plan was bringing life to their garden. This time a garden without tiles but instead full of the flowers, trees and shelters, , which was also perfectly maintainable by the garden owner.
The vegetation plans were also designed to make a garden water resistant by using several save-rainwater methods such as rain barrels (regenton), rainponds and small open streams (wadi). To achieve that we worked intensively on water solution for every garden individually.
Design and maintenance calendar, vegetation proposal and budget estimations per garden.
The project started as a pilot in:
Amsterdam West in 2018-19 (successfully completed),
and continued successfully in:
Amsterdam West, Slotermeer Noordoost-New West and Center (successfully completed) in 2019-20.
We are happy and still continue our green mission for the city of Amsterdam.
2021 Amsterdam West and Amsterdam Noord Tuindorp Oostzaan.
